Chateau Les Arcis is in Hauterive, a commune in the Yonne department of Burgundy, in north-central France. It is a rural farming community on the River Serein, with a Mairie (town hall), Church and Auberge.
Seignelay, the nearest town, (approx. 5 minutes drive). A pretty town with an 18th Century covered market. Here you will find everything you need: A pharmacy, boulangerie (bakery – the best in the area), Saturday morning market (food only), Cave (wine shop), supermarket, petrol station, eateries (basic), bar/tobacco shop, car wash, church, post office and police station.
Cheny / Migennes (depending on which side of the river) is approx. 10 minutes drive. Our nearest train station is located here (Laroche-Migennes). We offer a pick-up delivery service to/from the train station if desired. This town is not really worth a visit, unless it's for amenities: banks, supermarkets, boulangerie, petrol stations.
Moneteau (approx. 10 minutes drive) On the river, and with walks along the canal, there is a Post Office, pharmacy, bar/tabac, supermarket and petrol station. Nearby is a large commercial centre (Clairions) with shops such as Picard, Darty, etc. One of our favourite local restaurants is in Moneteau (see our Dining section).

Almost all the local towns have a market on a given day, predominantly for foods, but some also have clothing, local wine and more.
Seignelay is the closest, and offers good fruit and vegetables.
Joigny is the best for choice of fish, meats, cheese and choice of vegetables.
Chablis is the most fun and diverse, with a variety of foods and more, as well as cafes, wine tastings and some shops also open.

We also have an organic mill (Moulin), within walking distance of Les Arcis. Normally wholesale, they are open to the public on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 17:30 – 19:30. (See Activities for directions).
Cheny Boulangerie is the nearest open on a Monday. Atac Supermarket also has freshly baked bread.
